I spend so much time talking about writing that I don’t spend a whole lot of time talking about myself.
I live in Montreal with my husband and my four cats. My cats are always eager to help me write by lying on my clipboard and notes, stealing my pens, and poking at me with their cute little paws.
While I’m working on my fiction projects, I work as a freelance writer and editor for a variety of clients. Right now, I’m catering to one client on a daily basis so I have the time to work on my fiction.
I normally reserve editing projects for people I know and critique partners, but I do consider taking editing clients. If you’re interested, please contact me at rebecca @ rebeccablain . com (remove the spaces). I don’t do the sugar-coating thing very well, and I charge roughly $200 for a read-through and general commentary and fix suggestions. I do not implement fixes for clients, but instead provide a review list of errors found, whether or not those errors were repeated, and general commentary.
That said, I don’t take clients often. The type of people I like as a client are the same type of people I often do the same service for free because they’re people I know and trust to be professional about their manuscripts and are as interested in my writing and helping me improve as I am in their writing and helping them improve.
If it sounds snobbish, well, it may very well be. I am very proud of the hard work and many hours I put in when I do edit for someone.
If you want to learn more about me, see my art, or otherwise get to know me on a personal level, there are a few ways you can contact me. You can always drop me an email at the above address, circle me on Google+, or follow me on twitter.
I like cats. I want to hug every cat, but my husband won’t allow me to. I don’t blame him. When I hug a cat, I am tempted to steal the cat and bring it home.
Ironically, he was the mastermind behind the acquisition of the two later cats we acquired from shelters. That said, I didn’t say ‘no!’ to bringing home Miss Tia and Princess.
